Narwal Freo X Ultra
A highly-rated high-quality, highly-functional Gen 4 robot vacuum and mop that takes a fresh approach to design, the Freo X Ultra is a very well-built machine. The price of $1400 might be difficult to swallow, but it's often on sale to make it more affordable. The unit looks great and the base station occupies just a small space in the corner of the room.
This robot's design addresses some of the issues we have encountered with other robotic mop and vacuum units, such as the brushes getting caught in hair, or the brush not being able to reach floors that are not covered by furniture. The performance of the sweeper on carpets and bare floors is also impressive. The vacuum/mop features a high level debris pickup and the mop can quickly soak up bare floors.
The mops utilize a clever system that cleans along the edges of walls, and around furniture. The robot is able to effortlessly avoid obstacles such as food bowls, toys and backpacks. However, it could get stuck or entangled with smaller and less hefty objects like shoelaces, USB cables, and pens.
This robot was used to vacuum and mop hardwood flooring, FLOR carpet tiles and pile rugs in a large open-plan home. It was able to vacuum and mop the 90m2 space in 170 minutes using FREO Mind enabled. This is a bit more than the average for Gen 4 robots.
Certain features differentiate this robot from other robots in its class. The Freo X Ultra has a array of sensors, software and hardware enhancements designed to keep it at the top of its class. It is said to have autonomy of 3.5 hours for environments up to 260m2.
Freo's application lets you alter various functions, such as how often the robot goes to the base station. You can also alter the frequency of mopping as well as the power level (silent, intelligent), or the mopping's humidity. The app can identify heavily soiled spots and create an appropriate cleaning route. It can also dispensate detergent, or raise the carpet pads.
Other notable features include a simple-to-read display on the robot's bottom and the dock door is convenient to open. The Freo X Ultra vacuum and mop is perfect for homeowners and apartment dwellers who want to simplify their chores and keep their homes clean.
Miele Scout RX3
Miele is a name synonymous with quality and innovation in the field of robotic vacuuming. This new robot is designed to take cleaning capabilities to a new level, thanks to its advanced features.
The RX3 has dual suction technology smart navigation system that incorporates 3D mapping and a camera that transmits a live image to your smartphone for simple control. The powerful four-stage cleaning system ensures excellent dust removal on carpet and hard floors, while intuitive swing-out side brushes and dual suction channels remove dust from corners. The 8.5 cm height means it can get under furniture that is low, and front cameras and infrared sensors assist it navigate around obstacles and thresholds with ease.
The Scout RX3 impressed us in our test of how well it cleaned baking powder from baseboards and corners. Its suction was less powerful than other robots, but it was still quiet and swift in its movements. It didn't mop however its washable pads were a bit difficult to attach and could not deal with dried-on dirt.
Its app lacks advanced features, such as multiple cleaning modes or automated scheduling. It does support Alexa however its voice controls aren't intuitive or responsive. It's also a bit sporadic when it comes back to the charging station after an exercise. Other robots can follow an obstruction or follow a previous route however, the RX3 stumbles around until it finally gives up.
Another issue we faced was with its intelligent features, particularly the mapping function as well as digital keep-out zones. While it did a decent job of avoiding our shoes and furniture legs however, it was easily stuck by cables and socks and it was not able to manage the tassels of rugs. We didn't include the Scout RX3 in our Best Buy list. The Scout RX3 offers a good price and a dazzling performance. It's worth looking into as an alternative to the traditional uprights.
